Occupied Space: Pollination
In 2015, I began a series of works inspired by environmental occupation, change, and stewardship. The works were made from up-cycled and repurposed materials. 3 of my studies on wind farms, pollination, and environmental stewardship are available:
- Pollination, featuring a wind turbine and bees
- Thought, featuring a figurative illustration inspired by the study of the brain
- Weathervane, featuring a weather vane layered in the shadow of a windturbine
The plaster honeycomb panels were my favorite pieces to make, but at this time, space in our studio is in premium demand. Detail images show the installation view of a the silk moth panel hung in my kitchen for reference. These mixed media paintings are gouache, ink, and acrylic polymers to emulate the visual depth or effects created in my encaustic works. The use of acrylic polymers rather than wax, allow these pieces to be displayed in a wider variety of living spaces without loss of pigmentation or detail due to heat or moisture and may be displayed in direct sunlight. We have decided to discount these to below wholesale and include the mounting hardware for free. Each panel measures approximately 14 in length, 16" in height, and 1.5" thick. The wooden French Cleats were custom made for each panel and allow for universal display. The final installed pieces float .5" from the wall surface.
